Bio
Nadeen Fankhauser is a clarinetist based in Brooklyn NY where she maintains an active performing and teaching career. She grew up on a small farm in Ohio, where she began playing the clarinet at the age of 10. It was in high school that her interest and abilities in music began to bloom when her family spent most of a year on sabbatical in Italy and she took lessons with Giuseppe Baldini through the Conservatorio di Musica di Napoli. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance from Oberlin Conservatory, studying with Lawrence McDonald, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. She achieved her Masters of Music from Florida State University under the instruction of Frank Kowalsky, and a Performance Certificate from Northwestern University with Steven Cohen and Lawrie Bloom. Other teachers include Richie Hawley and Eugene Marquis.
Nadeen has held playing positions with the Evansville Philharmonic in Indiana and Orchestra Iowa in Cedar Rapids, and has performed with the New World Symphony in Florida. Since moving to Brooklyn in 2015, she has been busy as a freelancer and performs regularly with orchestras in and around New York City such as the New England Symphonic Ensemble in Carnegie Hall, Wicked on Broadway, the Garden State Philharmonic, String Orchestra Brooklyn and Bard Conductor’s Institute Orchestra. She is a member of the Park Slope Chamber Players, performing new and classical music in and around New York City, and recording under the Centaur label.
Teaching has long since been one of Nadeen's passions that has persistented since she started working with students when she was in high school. She has since established significant private studios in Cincinnati, Chicago, San Francisco and New York, and worked through esteemed institutions including Youth Orchestra St. Luke's, Saint Savior Academy and Fei Tian Academy of the Arts. She has spent summers teaching at Appalachian State University’s Cannon Music Camp in Boone, North Carolina, and before that Friend's Music Camp in Barnesville, Ohio. Many of her students have been awarded placement into state and regional honor ensembles, concerto performance opportunities, prestigious college music programs, and have gone on to become career accomplished performers.
